Road Safety Demonstration

Irish Road Safety Week (IRSW) is taking place from 7th - 13th of October with various road safety activities taking place countrywide in the national drive to save lives. As part of IRSW, TU Dublin, in partnership with An Garda Siochana and the Road Safety Authority, held a two day event raising awareness of the dangers faced by every day road users, with a particular emphasis on how drugs and alcohol can impair the judgement of a driver. For the 600 second level students from Dublin 7, 11 & 15 that attended, the highlight was a live action demonstration of a road accident, which simulated a "real-life" accident situation. Using actors, the scene involved a two car collision, attendance of emergency services, assessment of the scene, casualty extraction - including roof removal, and drug and alcohol testing.

Adrienne Harding, event coordinator at TU Dublin "We are delighted to host this event at TU Dublin. Road Safety is such an important life lesson, which we all need to be aware of now more than ever before. We hope that this event will bring about awareness of Road Safety to young people who attended, most of whom will start to drive themselves very soon."

What our students say...

Monika Karaliunaite

"Basically the course covers everything to do with digital and online media. I had it as a hobby in sixth year but when I came here I learned so much more."
