At a reception in his residence, His Excellency Kevin Michael Vickers, Ambassador of Canada to Ireland, launched the Centre for Higher Education Research, Policy and Practice (CHERPP) active learning manual. The manual is a result of a partnership with TU Dublin and Canadian Higher Education Institutes - University of Ontario (UOIT) and Durham College. The centre promotes international and cross-cultural research on higher education by enabling academic, professional services and management staff from both countries to work on joint projects and papers as outlined by Ireland's Action Plan for Education (2017).

With the support of the Higher Education Authority through the Government of Ireland Academic Mobility Programme and Erasmus+, 50 TU Dublin staff are involved with Canadian counterparts on almost 70 projects. The centre aims to have an additional 70 Irish staff involved in the Centre by the end of 2019 aligning TU Dublin with Ireland's International Education Strategy.

The active learning manual is based on a sound method that the educator can easily deploy. The student centred pedagogical approach allows learners to build their understanding while also taking responsibility for their own learning where the educator acts in a facilitator or enabler role.

This enquiry-based approach is at the heart of what Durham College, UOIT and TU Dublin provide to students as it can be applied to diverse problems and contexts within their educational journey and across disciplines. It also provides learners with a framework to use when working on problems that they will encounter within the workplace and encourages lifelong learning.

President of TU Dublin, Prof David FitzPatrick congratulated the contributors and thanked the Ambassador for hosting the first TU Dublin public event since designation on Jan 1st 2019.

What our students say...

"Basically the course covers everything to do with digital and online media. I had it as a hobby in sixth year but when I came here I learned so much more."
