ITB Creative Digital Media Course to partner with Draiocht for the inaugural Draiocht Visual Culture Award

ITB's Creative Digital Media course and Draiocht Blanchardstown will be launching the inaugural Draiocht Visual Culture Award for a graduate of the ITB Creative Digital Media Programme on Thursday 19th October, 7pm. This award will be presented at the Draiocht to a final year student based on their project work.

There will also be two exhibitions on display in the Draiocht from Thursday 19th October - Saturday 04th November 2017.
Lost State - Hugh McCabe and Suzanne Walsh and The Weight of Water - Elaine Hoey. Both exhibitions explore the relationship between storytelling, contemporary narratives and technology. The exhibitions will be opened by Fiach Mac Conghail, CEO, The Digital Hub.



Lost State - Hugh McCabe & Suzanne Walsh
Lost State, a mixed-media installation by Hugh McCabe and Suzanne Walsh, comprises of photography, voice, 3D animation and audio. The work centres around photographs of disused computer parts shot from the imagined point of view of future entities uncovering the technological detritus of our time. Hugh McCabe is a Dublin-based lecturer, a musician and an artist and teaches critical theory and 3D graphics at the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown. He is graduate of the MA 'Art In the Contemporary World' course at NCAD.
Suzanne Walsh is an artist, writer and musician whose cross-disciplinary work moves between the literary, music and art worlds. She is currently a resident artist at Fire Station Artists' Studios.



The Weight of Water - Elaine Hoey
The Weight of Water is an extraordinary immersive animation fusing virtual reality and gaming technology to address the ongoing global refugee crisis. The artist together with students from the Creative Digital Media degree at the Institute of Technology, Blanchardstown will invigilate the opening night.
Elaine Hoey is an award-winning artist who recently completed a Masters in Fine Art at NCAD. In 2016 she won the prestigious RDS Taylor Art Award for The Weight of Water, following which it was exhibited at Futures at the RHA; Design and Violence, a collaboration between the Science Gallery, Dublin and MoMA, New York. She is currently undertaking a commission for the National Sculpture Factory.
