The home of Irish boxing the National Stadium on the South Circular Road played host at the weekend to inter universities open competition. The two day event saw a full programme of preliminary and semi final bouts in the Novice, Intermediate and Senior categories.
Congratulations to ITB's Eoghan McNutt (first year Sports Management)who was runner up in the light heavyweight division, loosing on a score of 5-3 to Eoghan Connolly (Simthsboro ABC) representing Letterkenny IT. Both boxers had comfortable wins in their semi-final bouts with Connolly stopping his NUI Maynooth contestant in the second round and McNutt stopped his DIT opponent in round 1.

The final was a close and evenly contested encounter, with Connolly landing the cleaner punches to edge ahead in the final round.
Overall the competition was a well organised and run tournament, the interest and attendance by the majority of Universities and Colleges augurs well for the future of amateur boxing.

"Basically the course covers everything to do with digital and online media. I had it as a hobby in sixth year but when I came here I learned so much more."
