At TU Dublin - Blanchardstown you can study Computer Engineering, (with a later specialisation in Mobile Systems) or Mechatronic Engineering or Product Innovation and Design. These courses are offered at Higher Certificate, Ordinary Degree and Honours Degree levels.



Graduates of these courses can work on Mobile Systems, in Software Engineering, Electronics Design, the Manufacturing sector, Automation, and Test Engineering amongst others. Students will be equipped to apply for a wide range of high technology jobs upon completion of the course.

Computer Engineering Overview

This branch of engineering deals with the research, design, test , manufacture and maintenance of modern electronics systems, which typically consist of electronics under the control of software.

Hardware deals with the electronics and structure of computer based products and software deals with how they are programmed to perform useful tasks. In many cases people working in these areas have graduated from courses where either software or hardware was the major component.

Mechatronics is the synergistic integration of precision mechanical engineering, control theory, computer science and electronics in such areas as product design and process control and automation. The Internet of Things (IoT) is about the new connected world, that is fast expanding, based on synergistic integration of Computer Science, Sensor Technology, and Engineering Science and Technology. It concerns the new generation of systems of networked devices that are becoming capable of sensing, transmitting and acting on data, e.g,: wearables, autonomous vehicles, drones, robots, smart homes, smart cities, smart industries, etc.


Design,Technology and Innovation Overview

The degree in Design,Technology and Innovation offers an opportunity for an exciting career in technology design. This new and innovative programme is the first of its kind in Ireland and offers students a truly unique learning experience. The programme has been developed by a multi-disciplinary team of Engineers, Designers, Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders. Students can tailor their own journey through this exciting new programme with three specialist stream options: Wearable Technologies, Smart Systems or Entrepreneurship. Students will also be given the opportunity to gain deep project design experience for one entire semester within either local industry or internationally through one of our international partner Institutes.
